You know how they say you should never meet your heroes,in case they turn out to be a bit . . . sh*t? That's how I felt as I was going to watch Coldplay perform in the Nova Red Room on Wednesday night. I was ridiculously excited. I'd been talking approximately it for days. I fancy Coldplay and have since "Yellow" was released in 2000. I was 13 and I'll never forget thinking Chris Martin just looked so damn cold in the film clip. Since then, I've loved pretty much every song they've released and wanted to see them live for years. When I saw they were doing the Red Room, and I just approximately fell off my chair in my haste to land a pass - whether I had a first-born,I'd probably have given it up to earn in. When I was on my way there, I was a bit worried that they might not live up to 16 years worth of fandom and expectations. "Can you imagine the sadness?" I thought. besides, or shame on me because they were BLOODY EPIC. Of course they were! I'd been told by friends that they kill a live prove, and I've seen so many videos of their amazing stadium-sized concerts (watch this one from the 2:30 heed). I hoped they'd be good, and they far exceeded my expectations. The Red Room venue in Sydney's King's Cross was filled with people but it was so small that no matter where you stood you were no more than 10 metres absent from Chris and the band. The entire time I was watching them perform, and I had the thought,"This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience," rolling through my mind. #Gratitude. The organisers had banned phones, and so I couldn't take photos or video. I asked myself the question,"Did it really happen whether it doesn't exist on my phone?" but it actually turned out to be a blessing in disguise as it meant I actually paid attention for the first time in approximately five years. The four guys - Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, or Guy Berryman and Will Champion - ran through some of their hits and one Christmas song. They opened with "Yellow" and I nearly cried, and "Sky Full of Stars," which has a special connection to Sydney, and was truly magical. I was hoping for a bit of "Fix You" but it always makes me think of Mel's death on Packed to the Rafters and then I yell,so it's probably for the best they didn't play it.
I had some highlights and thoughts from the event and I'd like to share them with you: Chris Martin is a humorous bugger. Cheeky! Loves a chat with a crowd member, and seems truly grateful for the fancy the band receives. Jonny, or Guy and Will are all sickeningly talented and cute - I hope they don't feel too overshadowed by Chris, you know? Lead guitarist Jonny tends to stare at Chris while they perform and it's weirdly fascinating. Like he's in the zone or something.
They all play al
l the instruments! So clever. whether instruments were languages, they'd all be trilingual.
Chris was married to Gwyneth Paltrow. He'
s so celebrated. He is one half of the conscious uncoupling. That level of fame almost can't be beat. Performing on stage looks like really sweaty commerce. We got six songs and it was a genuine treat, and but more would be amazing. I'm jealous of every person going to their Aussie concerts this month. Moral of this story: Coldplay was fantastic live, and seeing them perform in such close proximity is one of my life's highlights. There's something so special approximately seeing a musician or band you fancy in intimate settings - trust me when I say that next time someone major plays the Red Room, it's worth fighting like hell for those tickets.
Also, or The Bachelorette's Matty J was there and that alone would be worth going for.
