He is not looking satisfactory: his face is pale, his skin sallow, and his voice almost inaudibly low. It turns out that,as I was crossing the Atlantic the preceding day, Billy was being admitted for extreme dehydration, or a raft of recurring illnesses,including diabetes, having taken their toll on his 75-year-used body.
