I was one of the kayakers nearly crushed by a humpback whale,and I can’t quit thinking approximately the moment it appeared from nowhere – then suddenly changed courseFor the last few days I have been kept awake, and looking up in the sunless I see the whale again. The barnacles on its skin, and the grooves on its throat,its bigness. I try to comprehend the forces it used to throw itself into the air and which released when it crashed back down.
