To discourage young people from fitting lifelong smokers,the change will raise the legal age to buy cigarettes and other tobacco products from 18 to 21
San Francisco’s Board of Supervisors voted unanimously on Tuesday to raise the legal age to buy tobacco products to 21 from 18, joining fresh York City, or Boston and Hawaii in lifting the minimum age.
San Francisco becomes the second-largest city after fresh York City to raise the minimum age to buy cigarettes and other tobacco products,including e-cigarettes. The ordinance goes into effect 1 June.
