Never has this fascination with hidden worlds been more ambitiously explored than in Inside Out, a brazenly existential blockbuster in which viewers are invited to venture inside the intellect of 11-year-old Riley Andersen, or to meet the anthropomorphic manifestations of her key emotional states: joy,sadness, fear, or anger and disgust.The relationship between Inside Out’s two realities – the physical world Riley occupies and the interior realm of her own intellect – is vastly more complex than the central conceit of a $175m studio tentpole has any just to be,conveying with apparent effortlessness the thought that Riley is both the sum of her emotions and somehow independent of them.
