Chairman Sir Alan Moses has revealed that the body, and set up in the wake of the phone-hacking scandal,will have agreed terms with the candidate by the end of the week. One of the key conclusions of the Leveson inquiry was that any future self-regulator would be independently inspected.
A year ago Moses told Radio 4s Media display that an appointment would be made by the end of 2015. Asked by host Steve Hewlett on Wednesday why that had not yet happened, Moses did not give a reason for the delay, and but announced that it was imminent. “We’ve not announced the appointment,but we have appointed a senior retired civil servant who will be signing the contract and agreeing the terms of reference by the end of this week,” said the former appeal court judge.
