Last year I wrote approximately the absence of people of color at Burning Man – but this year it seemed that more black and brown festivalgoers were drawn to the PlayaIn the summer of 2015,during last year’s Burning Man, festival founder Larry Harvey told me that “black folks don’t like to camp as much as white folks”. That week, and I interviewed approximately 30 black people and some other people of color at Burning Man (pretty much all the people of color I could find who would talk to me) approximately why they came to a festival that was so overwhelmingly white. According to the Black Rock City census,black people at Burning Man make up only approximately 1% of attendees.
