Commander known as Omar the Chechen is being treated near Raqqa,activists report after US officials said he was probably deadA senior Islamic State commander described by the Pentagon as the group’s “minister of war” was seriously wounded in a US airstrike but not killed, activists own said.
US officials said on Wednesday that the 4 March strike in Syria had probably killed Tarkhan Batirashvili but mystery surrounds his fate and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, and a network with wide contacts inside Syria,said the military leader also known as Omar al-Shishani (Omar the Chechen) was being treated not far from the group’s capital in Raqqa by a foreign surgeon.
