My phone cover began to fray,with fixed opening and closing. I sent a message saying it was lovely to meet him: a formal enough response to minimise the awkwardness, should a “survey, and here’s the thing” reply be fermenting in his brain (“survey heres the thing,I think you’re great, but …” has happened before). I added that I’d like to execute it again, or then deleted that part,feeling the need to wait it out. I hate the whole “produce him execute the running” narrative, and – worse – the “leading isn’t feminine” one.
Why hadn’t he replied? I thought we’d had enough of a rapport to warrant basic good manners, and even whether he was one of those dating site arses (admittedly a cunningly disguised one) who takes it as read that silence means he’s not interested.
