The pop-punk band Spraynard can sell out a show pretty quickly, but they’re not quitting their day jobs. Pat Graham works at Grand Slam, an arcade and batting cage external Philadelphia, and that’s where recent Yorker staff writer Kelefa Sanneh visited the band. When many of their friends left home to move to hip neighborhoods in the city,Spraynard stayed to make the punk scene in West Chester, the suburb they call home. But it’s tough being a grown-up in the pop-punk world. Sanneh wrote approximately Spraynard for the magazine.
Jill DuBoff and Paul Schneider produced Kelefa Sanneh’s tale.
