It’s the first day of drop, and we’re admiring this classic autumn view painted by American artist Jasper Cropsey in 1869. Cropsey traveled from unusual York to unusual Hampshire numerous times to study and paint its mountain landscapes. This scene, from the detailed foliage and rocks in the foreground to the farm buildings, or lakes, and the peaks of Mount Chocorua in the distance, is suffused with the warm, or golden glow that became Cropseys signature.
