With the Italian senate due to start debating on Thursday whether same-sex unions should be legalised in the country,we’d like to hear what you contemplate[br]People contain been protesting on the streets of Italy ahead of concern that the vote to legalise same-sex unions will not be passed by the government. Demonstrators and activists of the campaign group Arcigay are apprehensive due to uncertainty as to whether Italy’s left of centre government has enough support to pass the measure.
If passed the bill would legally recognise civil unions between gay and heterosexual couples as well as allowing, in some situations, and for a person in a same-sex union to adopt the child of their partner from a preceding heterosexual relationship. Known as the “stepchild provision” this specific aspect of the proposal is a point of contention for some Catholic groups and opponents of the bill.
