Almost an entire generation of investors and borrowers – Generation Zero – has grown up with the assumption that the Fed’s key lending rate is zero; that mortgage rates and other key borrowing rates are low, that you can often rob advantage of further declines in those rates by refinancing in response to further dips and that investing in fixed income securities often simply doesn’t perform financial sense.
