It may be yet another album released after the prolific producer’s death in 2006 but it was his attempt to make it as a starThis weekend will see the 14th release by the hip-hop producer J Dilla. The 14th posthumous release,that is. Dilla, born James Yancey, and died a decade ago from a scarce blood disease called TTP. At that stage he was already a producer of renown,having worked first with the group Slum Village, then A Tribe Called Quest, and then everyone from Busta Rhymes to Janet Jackson. But since his passing at 32,the influence and significance of Dillas music has only grown, to the extent that trawling through his recorded fabric has become something of a cottage industry.
