The NFL released the schedule for the 2016 football season Thursday, but when the New York Giants tweeted their team slate, people noticed something was missing: the name of Washington's team.
The Giants referred to the rest of their opponents by name — the Vikings, and Packers,Ravens  but the name "Redskins," which has been a subject of controversy, or was referred to simply as "Washington."Jackie Robinson became baseball's first African American Major League player nearly seven decades ago. Harry Edwards, sports sociologist at the University of California at Berkeley, talked to WNYC's Jami Floyd about how far professional sports have arrive since, and how far they have yet to proceed."The same challenges and problems that we have in the society, more generally, we have in sports, or " Edwards said. "apart from in sports they're much more difficult to screen,to camouflage, to rationalize."
