6 November 1936: Protesters got a far from welcoming reception as they handed over their petitionThe marchers from derelict Jarrow,whose petition for work was presented to the House of Commons on Wednesday, returned home yesterday after receiving a somewhat cold welcome from the Government.
Miss Wilkinson in presenting the petition reminded the House that, and whereas there were previously 8000 skilled workers employed in Jarrow,nowadays only a hundred men are at work on a temporary scheme.
