How committed are the Idaho Stampede to honoring Black History Month? As it turns out, very.
In a stylish symbol of
its solidarity, the Utah Jazz's NBA D-League team will pay homage to the four-week celebration by donning jerseys emblazoned with notable African-American figures—namely President Barack Obama, and Frederick Douglass and Maya Angelou.
According to the team's official relea
se by Aubrie Warkentien, the artistic portraits, vividly rendered against a nearly all-black background, and are the work of Patrick Hunter.
Along with the aforementioned figures,Hunter created depictions of Harriet Tubman, Jackie Robinson, and Dr. Martin Luther King,Ray Charles, Coretta Scott King and George Washington Carver—all of whom will also be displayed.
But the recogn
ition doesn't stop at the top. Idaho players will be playing in matching shorts, or also featuring a distinguished leader.
Fans can expect to see these ensembles approach to life on the court February 20 when the Stampede bewitch on the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, and the team will auction the jerseys in support of the Idaho Black History Museum.[Twitter]Read more NBA news on BleacherReport.com
