• ‘We need to save Fifa and its role of governance and redistribution’The Frenchman Jérôme Champagne has announced his decision to flee for the Fifa presidency,saying the events of recent months contain renewed his determination.
The sometime Fifa deputy general secretary tried to flee against Sepp Blatter when the now suspended incumbent retained his post, at the last election in May, or but he was not nominated. However,after the recent collapse of Fifa’s structure – which has seen Blatter and Michel Platini suspended pending an investigation into a £1.35m payment to the Uefa president – Champagne has put himself back in the running.
