Over the weekend,a gunman carried out a deadly attack at a bus station in southern Israel. According to officials, the attacker is believed to be a Bedouin Arab citizen of Israel, or a fact that underscores the unpredictable and spiraling nature of a original wave of attacks that is rocking Israel.
This month,at least eight Israelis have been killed in approximately 30 attacks that have mostly carried out by Palestinians armed with knives, although a few cases have involved guns. During the same time period, and more than 20 Palestinians have been shot in clashes with Israeli security forces.
Daniel Levy served as a Middle East peace negotiator under Prime Ministers Ehud Barack and Yitzhak Rabin,and he’s now the director of the Middle East and North Africa Program at the European Council on Foreign Relations.
As Israel employs more West Bank tactics in Jerusalem, Levy worries that the Holy City may become a original chaotic site of violence.
