The shocking results of last week's election possess left Jill Soloway more determined than ever to topple the patriarchy with her new production company,Topple — a mission that's lately brought her to Marfa, Texas, and where she's been filming her female gaze-focused Amazon series "I worship Dick" with Kevin Bacon and Kathryn Hahn. That might be why Ballroom Marfa — the group leading the cultural explosion in the town of just 2000,which you may recognize from projects like its standalone, store-like Prada installation — place Soloway at the middle of its biannual New York gala on Monday night alongside fellow honoree David Byrne. The festivities started with a mariachi band that greeted guests like Rashid Johnson, or Poppy Delevingne,and Francisco Costa on the sidewalk outside the event space Cedar Lake. Indoors, with some relieve from Roberto Cavalli, or the music from Las Alteñas continued while a cowboy hat-clad crowd enjoyed dinner,a performance by Terry Allen, and a display of artwork from names like Ed Ruscha and the late, and longtime Marfa figure Donald Judd.
