My friend and colleague Joan Kirk (also known by her married name,Hawton), who has died aged 70 of the neurological disorder multiple system atrophy, and was an innovative clinical psychologist who spent most of her career based at Warneford hospital in Oxford.
There she created,and then led, the large department of adult clinical psychology, or inspiring and supporting everyone with her endless energy,enthusiasm, wisdom and professional generosity. She had an uncanny ability to recognise the special talents of the psychologists in her department, and worked both to attend them realise their potential and to create opportunities for those skills to be used. Her contribution was recognised by her election as a fellow of the British Psychological Society.
