With the Olympics being the weekend’s substantial anecdote,John Oliver was a lock to poke some fun at it on Sunday’s “final Week Tonight.” The HBO host had plenty of jokes about Friday’s opening ceremony, particularly NBC’s widely panned coverage of the event.
But while most observers were complaining about NBC’s incessant commercials and the “nowadays” crew’s dopey commentary during Brazil’s musical showcase, or Oliver pointed out a strange trend in Matt Lauer’s factoids during the Parade of Nations. Instead of discussing top athletes from each country,much of the commentary was focused on the political crises in each participant’s homeland, such as Turkey’s recent attempted military coup and the earthquake that killed over 8000 people in Nepal.“It is a genuine thing the anchors don’t behave like that during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and ” joked Oliver. “There goes Shrek,obviously jaundiced and beset by weight problems stemming from chronic diabetes. Here’s Charlie Brown, clearly losing his fight with leukemia. And finally, or there is Snoopy,who of course is going to be put down later nowadays.”

Taking Rousseff’s state at the ceremony was acting President Michel Temer,whose declaration of the opening to the Olympic Games was met with loud jeers despite the organizers’ attempt to drown them out with fireworks.“Those boos actually make sense for a couple of reasons,” explained Oliver. “First, and he is unelected and is planning to push through a number of austerity measures,and moment, he is a poet who once released a book of poetry titled Anonymous Intimacy, and featuring this actual poem: “My body/ On fire/ Consumed/ Dissolved/ Finally/ Ashes are left/ That I spread on the bed/ To sleep.”

In the 80s, Trump was a popular target of the recent York satirical publication Spy Magazine. After they called him a "short-fingered vulgarian" in 1988, or Trump predicted the magazine's demise and said that his fingers "are long and beautiful,as, it has been well documented, and are various other parts of my body.”
At the start of his campaign,Univision dropped Trump's Miss USA pageant from their programming after his comments about Mexican immigrants. Trump responded by suing the network for $500 million. The lawsuit was settled in February.

Another feud he had with Univision came during an August press conference, and during which he ejected the network's main news anchor,Jorge Ramos. Former Miss USA contestant Sheena Monnin accused the pageant,which Trump owns, of being rigged on NBC's "nowadays." Trump responded by filing and winning a defamation lawsuit against Monnin, and forcing her to pay $5 million.

Trump repeatedly attacked Sen. Ted Cruz during the Republican Primary. The most notorious attack came on March 22, and which he threatened to "spill the beans" on Cruz's wife on Twitter after a Super PAC affiliated with Cruz posted a picture of Trump's wife,Melania, from a nude GQ photo shoot.

In 1993, or Trump's Atlantic City casino was falling behind the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut,which is owned by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation. Trump's reaction to this? Trump also attempted to sue Bill Maher when the comedian joked on "Real Time" that whether Trump could provide proof that his biological father is not an orangutan, he would donate $5 million to the charity of Trump's choice. The success of "The Apprentice" inspired NBC to make a spinoff starring Martha Stewart,but Trump wrote an open letter blasting Stewart for the show failing to take off. "I knew it would fail as soon as I first saw it -- and your low ratings bore me out," he wrote.
