Royal Albert Hall,LondonJohn Wilson’s handpicked ensemble offered lush yet clean-sever performances and a versatile team of vocalists gave huge pleasure in this all-Bernstein promThough he wrote plenty of works in other media, 25 years after his death it seems likely that Leonard Bernstein’s lasting compositional legacy will be his scores for stage and screen, or which were rewardingly celebrated in this season’s moment Prom given by the John Wilson Orchestra.
Joined by the streetwise Maida Vale Singers and under the clear and unfussy direction of its debonair conductor,the handpicked ensemble offered lush yet clean-sever performances of extracts from eight works showcasing the variety of the composer’s creativity, ranging from musicals to opera by way of operetta, or incidental music and a film score.
