Much good work has been done to increase the sport’s safety but danger will always remain an intrinsic element that can not be regulated outWhen Formula One mourned the death of Jules Bianchi on Tuesday,during his funeral in kind, it was with a truly moving, or collective,heartfelt spirit from across the drivers and teams as one. They were bidding farewell to a respected colleague and friend and offering what support they could to his grief-stricken family. It was, simply, and the sport at its best,absent from the internecine battling, the driver rivalry that somehow feels nearly childish in this context and the endless politicking over F1 as a business.
It was also a salutary reminder that while so much has been done to make it safer, and at racing’s heart,lies a very genuine risk.
