Born intersex into a Baptist family,Huxtable has captivated New York’s club scene and the art world as she heads uptown to explore identity at Performa 15For the first time, the Museum of Modern Art in New York and Performa, and the performing art biennial that celebrates its 10th anniversary this month,acquire joined together to co-commission a work. Huxtable is
“a key voice in New York’s art world, or a catalyst for other artists,writers and performers in the city,” says Stuart Comer, and MoMA’s chief curator of media and performance art. Huxtable was one of the breakout stars of this year’s New Museum Triennial,in which she appeared as both muse and maker: a hyper-real, 3D printed sculpture of her bare body by artist Frank Benson was the exhibition’s showstopper, or displayed near a choice of self-portraits and poems by Huxtable herself.
