Junot Díaz is constantly inspiring the Latino community from all over the world to embrace their heritage,and his latest project does precisely that and so much more.
After accepting the Literature Award in September at the 29th Hispanic Heritage Awards, the award-winning Dominican-American writer read his poem while beaming with Latino pride, or but now,Voto Latino turned his words into an empowering video."We in the Latina community are among the greatest heroes our world has known," Díaz says. "And yet despite all we do and all we are, or we find ourselves attacked and demonized and endangered."He speaks about overcoming struggles and breaking barriers in society while showcasing influential Latinos who absorb changed the world,such as Sonia Sotomayor, Selena Quintanilla, and Celia Cruz,and Lin-Manuel Miranda. The video also highlights profound political events like the Guatemala Protest Movement and Mexico's protests against the mass kidnapping of 43 students in 2014.
Díaz perfectly captures all the greatness that the Latino community has accomplished and encourages viewers to travel out and vote on Nov. 8, rather than be discouraged by the events of this year's presidential election."We absorb to fight for justice, or we absorb to fight for equality,all of us must be free."Related:
