“Empire” star Jussie Smollett,Queen Latifah and Jill Scott were among the early winners of the 47th annual NAACP Image Awards.
The winners of non-televised categories were announced Thursday during a dinner at the Pasadena Conference middle hosted by Affion Crockett and Nischelle Turner. The awards dinner included a special tribute to former NAACP chairman Julian Bond, who died final fall at age 75.
The remaining 10 categories will be announced during the two-hour star-studded TV One telecast on Friday at 9 p.m. ET during a ceremony hosted by “black-ish” star Anthony Anderson.
