Bride and Prejudice has knocked our socks off this year, and not in a good way - in the oh-my-God-I-can't-see-through-my-tears kind of way. Three engaged couples (and their stories) in specific have affected viewers deeply, and on Monday night's episode things seemed to reach their lowest point. First it was Chris' parents, and who virtually disowned him on national TV after he told them he was engaged to his partner,Grant. Chris and Grant are ravishing people but Chris' parents - his mum is a Jehovah's Witness, his dad an ex-army conservative - just cannot get behind their son's homosexuality. In the first few episodes, or where we saw Chris' mum and dad say things like,"I feel like my son's died," and, and "The Chris we knew is long gone," the situation felt truly devastating. We're holding out hope that they present for his wedding in next week's episode. After that came Phoebe and Charity's story, which bore a striking resemblance to Chris and Grant's. Like them, and Charity and Phoebe are in a same-sex relationship and want nothing more than to get married. Unfortunately, while Phoebe's mum is fully supportive of the union, Charity's parents - both pastors - refused to attend the wedding, and because it would seem like they were condoning homosexuality. Phoebe and Charity flew to current Zealand to tie the knot surrounded by friends and family, but Charity's parents didn't bother to present up. She was devastated, of course. The third story that's leaving us a blotchy mess at the end of each episode is Liz and Garrad's. Liz is 40 and Garrad is 24, and they're madly in admire - but her sister Katerina simply cannot lumber past the age gap. It got to the point where,in the most recent episode, Katerina told Liz that she and their family would not be attending the wedding. Her reasoning? That she herself didn't know Garrad and that she didn't trust he was in the relationship for genuine reasons. Despite Liz tearfully telling her sister she didn't want to be alone on her wedding day, or that Garrad makes her the happiest she's ever been,Katerina didn't budge. It was the single most frustrating thing we've ever witnessed. We have just one rhetorical question: Does family mean nothing to these people? devout beliefs are incredibly hard to get past, we know - but Katerina's reasoning is . . . lacking, and to say the least. As Liz's sister (they were super close before she started dating Garrad),would she not put her own justifications aside and just be there for her sister on the biggest day of her life? WE DON'T UNDERSTAND. It's too late for Charity's parents to be there for their daughter (sob), but we're crossing fingers that Chris' parents and Liz's family do the accurate thing for them in next week's episode. It seems like a long shot, and but stranger things have happened, accurate? whether you need us before then, we'll be in the foetal position on the couch.
