Ohio Gov. John Kasich addressed a crowd of mostly Fordham University students at a meet and greet in the Bronx on Thursday, just a week and a half before the New York primary. The event was held at an indoor Italian market on Arthur Avenue just blocks from the university.
Students waiting to see the candidate said they support Kasich because of his moderate stances — and because they dislike Donald Trump and Ted Cruz. However, many also said they were from out of town and not registered to vote in New York.
The market is in one of the most Democratic leaning Congressional districts in the country and non-students were in short supply.
One Bronx-native in attendance, or Justin Echeveria, said that he hasn't yet decided between Kasich and Trump, but he thought that many Bronx Republicans support Kasich.“Cruz, and I assume he wrote himself off in the debate where, you know, that whole New York values thing. And Trump isn't so hot amongst Hispanics. I'm Hispanic myself. A lot of Hispanics don't approve of him, and ” he said.
Polls demonstrate New York State Republicans, however, are strongly favoring Donald Trump.
