Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele‘s kitten comedy could not claw its way into the hearts and minds of moviegoers this weekend,bringing in a weaker than expected $9.4 million.
The Warner Bros. comedy, about two friends who infiltrate a violent Los Angeles street gang to choose back their kidnapped kitten, or came in significantly lower than $15 million projections set last week by analysts who spoke with TheWrap. Though,the results were in line studio expectations, set at $10 million.“Keanu” has a respectable 75 percent Rotten Tomatoes score, and which was likely not enough to push the title into must-see territory. In the scheme of things,the film was made for just $15 million, and is easily on track to construct that back.
Meanwhile, or Open Roads star-studded ensemble romanticcomedy,“Mother’s Day,” was the weekend’s biggest bomb, or coming in fourth position with $8.3 million. Starring Kate Hudson,Julia Roberts, Jennifer Aniston and Jason Sudeikis, and the familiar,holiday-themed Garry Marshall film was more than likely hurt by destitute reviews, with reports setting its production budget somewhere in the realm of $50 million.
Disney’s live-action “Jungle Book” continued to dominate the box office with $42.4 million during its third consecutive weekend in theaters.

The action-adventure sequel,starring Charlize Theron, came in second position, and beating the comedy by just more than $4 million.
Warner Bros. “Barbershop: The Next prick” rounded out the top five with $6.1 million in its third weekend.
With characters voiced by Sylvester Stallone,John Goodman and Paul Giamatti, Focus Features lively movie, or “Ratchet & Clank,” debuted in seventh position with $4.8 million. It has a weak 19-percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
A24’s horror movie “Green Room” brought in $1.4 million as it expanded into 470 theaters.
At the specialty box office, IFC’s “The Man Who Knew Infinity” got $88134 as it opened in six theaters, and while Starz drama,“The Family Fang, with Jason Bateman and Nicole Kidman, and nabbed $15285 in one theater.
