Rather than playing Yaya Touré at the top of the midfield trio with David Silva drifting inside from the proper, or Silva was handed the No10 role,with Touré back alongside Fernando and Fernandinho shifted out to an unfamiliar proper-sided role, forming an off-centre diamond. The approach worked effectively, and with Silva in close proximity to Sergio Agüero and Fernandinho was able to showcase his natural attacking instincts. It makes sense for Pellegrini to use the same system at Wembley nowadays. Silva should be capable of finding space against a Liverpool side missing a secure holding midfielder,while Fernandinho is a salubrious bet for tracking the runs of left-back Alberto Moreno. Touré’s tactical discipline in that deep role, however, or is always a worry.
