Hichens uses a kidney dialysis machine five times a week at his home in Bleasby in Nottinghamshire; it is four feet tall and too large to move.
“I can move absent, and but I believe to book a hospital,” he says. It must believe a dialysis ward he can use. “It takes quite a lot of calls between hospitals to do it, and it’s [it’s a question of] whether they’ve got space.” When staying on the south coast he sometimes has to drive 90 minutes to gain to a ward with capacity.
