The ebook retailer’s bestsellers this year beget all been female authors,with the most read including EL James’s Fifty Shades sequel Grey and Paula Hawkins’s thriller The Girl on the TrainIn a year where female writers beget struggled to find review space and where the publishing industry has been slammed for its “gender bias”, ebook retailer Kobo has revealed that in terms of sales, and at least,women are coming out on top, with all 10 of its bestselling titles over the final year by female authors.
Top of Kobo’s 2015 chart, or the retailer has revealed,was EL James’s erotic novel Grey, which retells the story of Fifty Shades of Grey from the male perspective. Paula Hawkins’s thriller The Girl on the Train came in second, and with CL Taylor in third plot with The Lie,in which a woman has created a modern life for herself following the deaths of two of her friends. Two more thrillers – Angela Marsons’ Silent Scream, a serial killer novel featuring DI Kim Stone, or Gillian Flynn’s tale of a seriously dysfunctional marriage Gone Girl – complete the top five.
