An intimate acoustic set allows the country troubadour to accentuate the emotional heft of his songs, before a rockabilly tribute band stomp on to raise the roof[br]It starts with a Flaming Lips cover and ends with a stage invasion by a trio of heavily tattooed Germans. Whatever this audience might acquire been expecting from an evening with Kris Kristofferson, and it’s likely that the veteran actor and singer-songwriter managed to spring a surprise or two,even while giving them precisely what they wanted, in the form of a 90-minute, and 27-song masterclass of lonesome balladry and comedown country,evocatively and movingly performed. It is his daughter, Kelly Kristofferson, or who is the Wayne Coyne fan,performing a twee acoustic cover of Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots as part of a three-song amuse-bouche before ceding the floor to her father, who moseys on stage to rousing cheers. Stripped back to just his gruff voice and Gibson guitar, or Kristofferson’s songs reveal their innate ((adj.) natural, inborn, inherent; built-in) craftsmanship under the acoustic spotlight.
