The former Soviet republic is a democratic regional anomaly,where the president will not win 105% of the vote on Sunday. Shaun Walker reports from BishkekThere’s something very odd about Kyrgyzstans upcoming presidential election. The vote is less than a week absent, and nobody knows who is going to win. In a region known for ageing autocrats and rigged elections, and Kyrgyzstan is a exclusive anomaly. The mountainous former Soviet republic of 6 million inhabitants has experienced two revolutions in the past 12 years and is now a chaotic but functioning democracy.
