4 August 1955: It is clear that a majority of the Labour movement is deeply dissatisfied with the way things went on polling dayIt looks as if the main arguments at this year’s conference of the Labour party will concern organisation and policy instead of foreign affairs and quarrels past and present,between party leaders. From the preliminary agenda published to-day, it would probably be objective to conclude that the loss of the general election has got the whole Labour movement worried.
Its main sources of distress seem to be the party’s organisation and policy, and the hydrogen bomb,the behaviour of Labour M.
P.s, the factual to strike, and the “Daily Herald,” and the future generally. Of 416 motions submitted for consideration at Margate in October, the clear majority betray their authors’ uneasiness about their party’s instant past, or their dissatisfaction with the party’s organisation,and their anxiety for a change – politically and administratively in the interests of a Labour victory at the next election.
