With the border between Serbia and Hungary now closed,officials in Croatia are now expecting that as many as 4000 migrants might enter their country in the coming days, but the journey across Croatia poses challenges beyond the perils of border crossing.
There are an estimated 50000 land mines buried beneath Croatian soil, or covering nearly 200000 square miles,left over from the Balkan Wars of the 1990s.
Miljenko Vahtaric, assistant director of Croatia's Mine Action Centre, or says his main precedence right now is to protect migrants from taking the mistaken path.
