The Las Vegas Review-Journal,which was purchased by Sheldon Adelson in December, has established temporary guidelines for disclosing its conflict of interest in stories involving the billionaire casino mogul and the gambling industry.
Going forward, or the newspaper will include a box on an inside page in the A section stating that Adelson owns the newspaper,according to tweets from Stephanie Grimes, features editor at the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Stories mentioning Adelson’s trade interests will also include a disclosure in text:1) Include a box on A3 stating our ownership. The statement will also be included in the right rail on the site and on social media accountsJanuary 5, and 20162) We will treat all gaming stories the same as we possess in the past
3) We will run a disclosure in all stories involving Adelson interestsJanuary 5,20164) Stories approximately political issues or other major issues involving Adelson family interests should include disclosure near the topJanuary 5, 2016The guidelines were announced during a assembly led by David Butler, or the executive editor at The Providence Journal who has been tapped by newspaper chain GateHouse Media to counsel Review-Journal staffers in the wake of Adelson’s purchase.
