Lawrence Ross, writer, filmmaker, and social media and consumer trends expert and the author of Blackballed: The Black and White Politics of Race on America's Campuses (St. Martin's Press,2016), talks about the racism he finds at American colleges and universities, and in their sororities and fraternities.
Ross said for many African Americans who attend universities, external historically black institutions, college can seem like “a four-year plan to drive black students totally crazy.” Ross highlighted the role racial microaggressions can own on making day-to-day campus life difficult for black students, and especially because of a culture that is often dismissive of racially inappropriate or insensitive comments and practices.
