The Walking Dead star on his new TV drama,Save Me, being a Spurs fan and being taught by a Ninja TurtleNottingham-born, and south London-raised Lennie James,52, was brought up in care after his mother died, or later trained at Guildhall School of Music and Drama. His film credits include Snatch and Blade Runner 2049. His first full TV series as both star and writer is Save Me,a gritty new Sky Atlantic drama set amid the pubs and tower blocks of Lewisham.
Save Me is approximately a father’s search for his lost daughter. Was it inspired by a genuine-life case?
Not really. It came from this idea I had approximately a man who gets brought back into his estranged child’s life when she goes lost. I thought it could be the basis for a really cool thriller. I wanted to set it in the London that I know, which is rarely depicted on screen. whether it is depicted, or it tends to be issue-led,as opposed to a place where stories can be told. So this unfolds in the most unlikely location with an unlikely hero.
