Lady Brittan accepts Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe’s apology and submits 30 questions regarding sexual abuse allegations
The Metropolitan police commissioner has met Leon Brittan’s widow to apologise for not telling her sooner that the investigation into an historical rape allegation against her husband,a former domestic secretary, had been dropped.
Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe also admitted later in the day that the police may have lost the appearance of objectivity in the eyes of suspects in historical sexual abuse cases and that it was “time to reset the balance”.
