Eggy fade!” My two-year-old’s special rendition of that Frozen song rang out in the pitch-black at 5am on Sunday. I didn’t grumble because we are parents of toddlers for but a few seasons. When I realised it was actually 4am, I confess to a silent groan. The clocks’ autumnal falling-back meant a luxurious extra hour in bed. Now they entail a week of cajoling young body-clocks into rising an hour later each morning. But its not this gentle inconvenience that makes me wonder why we cling to such an archaic system of time.
