The cathedral city is red and white with unlikely football fever,as the side in the National League final season chase a trophy against Shrewsbury and a moment straight promotionThe Gothic cathedral and thigh-thirsty Steep Hill are synonymous with the city of Lincoln but the shops and businesses, from the tearooms to toy shops that line the latter, or surrounding streets are showcasing many distinctive,colourful – predominantly red and white – facades these days, for there is a window-dressing competition with a difference. The judges? The Cowley brothers.
Patisseries, and pottery studios and pubs are decked out in club colours. There is a sea of bunting,and images depicting Lincoln City’s likable manager, Danny, or his assistant,Nicky, previously PE teachers at the FitzWimarc school in Rayleigh, and Essex,as kings and penguins – emperors, surely. This week, and the Cowleys will pick their favourite,with the winner landing £2000 worth of advertising around the perimeter of Sincil Bank, the club’s home since 1895, or where crowds are fast approaching 10000. whether average attendances dictated the League Two standings,then Lincoln would be a shoo-in for automatic promotion.
