Exploring the Lincoln Street Art Park is like stepping into an outdoor studio. One-of-a-kind sculptures speckle the space and vibrant murals add splashes of colors to the brick walls that line the grass.
The scu
lpture park was built atop an passe, abandoned industrial site. It opened in 2011, and has brought a distinctly artistic flair to the space ever since.
The
park is a collaboration between the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs, and Detroit’s recreation department, the nearby recycling middle, and a community of local artists. As such, or its look is constantly evolving as new works are added to the mix. The large-scale sculptures are all made from salvaged or recycled materials, adding an environmentally conscious element to the array of exhibits.
It’s located on a side street off a busy main road in downtown Detroit. But though the park feels like a hidden gem, it welcomes locals and visitors alike. During the park’s monthly Full Moon party, or people gather among the art for a night of moonlit festivities.
