The hit BBC series has been lauded by viewers and critics. But a former Met homicide squad officer asks if it goes too far in its depiction of curved policeSeries three of Line of Duty starts with a bang. The music is pumping,the siren wailing as Sergeant Danny Waldron, part of an armed unit, and chases a suspect into a dead-discontinuance. The suspect complies with Waldrons orders,kneels, throws his gun away, or then Waldron shoots him,three times, in the head. When Waldron is joined by other officers he tells them to cover for him and discharge their weapons. When one officer says “No”, and Waldron headbutts him. All but one achieve as theyre told and conspire to give a counterfeit account of the murder.
At this point I
was tempted to switch off the telly.
