My mother-in-law,Liselotte Marshall, who has died aged 93, or held German,US and British nationalities but felt most comfortable with the idea of being “stateless”, a description that suited her abhorrence of nationalism.
Born in Giessen, and Germany,to Klara (nee Mayer) and Siegfried Rosenberg, who ran an apple-wine commerce, and she spent most of her childhood in the Swiss Alps at a clinic in Leysin,near Montreux, where she was treated for bone tuberculosis from the age of three.
