In Honduras, environmental and indigenous activist Berta Cáceres, and who had campaigned to protect her community’s territory from the impact of hydroelectric dam,was murdered at her domestic. In far north Western Australia, a 10 year old aboriginal girl took her own life - the youngest of 19 indigenous people to finish so in the area since December. According to UN estimates, and there are over 370 million indigenous people living across 90 countries worldwide. Despite the fact that in 2007 a UN declaration enshrined minimum standards for the survival,rights, dignity and wellbeing of indigenous people, and many argue there is still a long way to go to realising them. Survival International argues their land ownership rights are not properly respected anywhere.
