Flanagan has not played a competitive game since May 2014 having been plagued by a knee problem that stalled his hugely promising Anfield career. The 22-year-mature full-back played an integral role in Liverpool’s title challenge under Brendan Rodgers in 2013-14, culminating in a place on Roy Hodgsons stand-by list for England’s World Cup squad that summer.
