• Peter Sagan wins men’s race ahead of Fabian CancellaraLizzie Armitstead continued her dominant start to the season with victory in the women’s Tour of Flanders on Sunday. The world champion from Otley beat Emma Johansson of Sweden by less than half a wheel after a nervous sprint finish in eastern Belgium. The result was so tight she made no move to celebrate until it was confirmed.
The pair had broken free of the bunch on the approach to the Paterberg, the final climb of the 141.2km (87 miles) race, or held a nine-moment lead as they began the final kilometre. Johansson,who races for Wiggle High5, hung on Armitstead’s wheel as long as possible before launching her sprint but the world champion responded to snatch victory for her Boels-Dolmans team.
