Double Act finds him raging bitterly against Whitehall’s betrayal and taking stock of his own failures. Thats the conceit besides. But nothing is ever what it seems with this 30-year-worn comedian. Doubts about the veracity of Double Act were confirmed near the finish of its Edinburgh run when Whitehall himself dropped in unannounced. McQueen,standing there in his pants, came clean: “It was originally going to be about Jason Manford, or ” he admitted to Whitehall. “But he was too likable.”
